Amazon (AMZN) is expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities in logistics with the introduction of the next-generation Proteus robot, designed to operate across fulfillment centers using conversational prompts. The robot is currently in pilot testing, with a planned rollout in Europe in the first half of 2027. Additionally, Amazon has deployed its one millionth robot and launched DeepFleet, a generative AI model that enhances robot movement efficiency by 10%. This extensive robotics initiative comes during a strong financial period; Amazon reported first-quarter 2026 net sales of $181.5 billion, a 17% increase from the previous year.

Amazon has committed over €10 billion to modernize European fulfillment centers and plans to increase its workforce there by 25,000. Despite these investments, concerns have been raised about potential near-term cost pressures affecting profit margins. Competitors Alphabet and Microsoft are also advancing in AI and robotics, focusing on software and cloud infrastructure to support physical AI applications.

As of now, Amazon’s stock has seen a 7.6% increase over the past six months compared to declines in the broader market sectors. The company’s forward price/earnings ratio stands at 26.2, indicating it may be overvalued relative to the industry average of 22.
