BP has announced the initiation of construction on its Peacock solar project in Corpus Christi, Texas. The project is expected to provide power to the new petrochemical complex jointly owned by Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Saudi Aramco’s SABIC.
Upon completion, the Peacock solar project will have the capacity to generate renewable energy annually, equivalent to the energy consumption of 34,000 homes.
BP (BP) aims to invest in and develop 50 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The Peacock project is part of this endeavor, and BP anticipates it will deliver the expected returns for renewable power.
Dave Lawler, Chairman and President of BP America (BP), stated, “Securing this agreement and commencing construction of the Peacock solar project further supports the transition to cleaner energy sources. It also brings substantial benefits to local communities and the economy.”
