Live cattle futures experienced losses on June 26, with declines ranging from $1.70 to $2.80 across various contracts. Cash trade remained stagnant with bids around $260, consistent with last week’s settlement of $256-$260. Feeder cattle futures also saw declines, closing down $2.50 to $7.30, while the CME Feeder Cattle Index fell $1.48 to $374.37.
As of June 26, the APHIS reported 1,701 active cases of New World Screwworms in Mexico, including 139 cases in Tamaulipas and 51 in Nuevo Leon, both near the U.S. border. USDA’s slaughter estimate for Tuesday stood at 108,000 cattle, totaling 210,000 for the week, up by 5,000 from last week but down by 8,947 compared to the same week last year.
In the wholesale market, Choice boxed beef prices dropped 49 cents to $390.73, while Select lost 22 cents, settling at $391.27, with the Chc/Sel spread at a 54 cent premium to Select.
