Lean hog futures fell by 12 to $1.52 on Tuesday, with the USDA reporting a national base hog price of $94.93. The CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 38 cents to $90.41 as of May 8. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was down 78 cents at $96.20 per cwt, reflecting lower prices in the loin, picnic, and belly primals.
On Monday, federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 462,000 head, a decrease of 17,000 from the previous Monday but 1,064 more than the same Monday last year. Current hog prices for May 26, June 26, and July 26 reflect declines of $0.125, $1.475, and $1.525, respectively.
