Amazon Launches Supply Chain Services for Businesses
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has introduced Amazon Supply Chain Services (ASCS), expanding its logistics network to other businesses. The initiative, announced by CEO Andy Jassy, allows companies access to Amazon’s infrastructure for long-distance shipping and warehousing, reminiscent of its successful Amazon Web Services (AWS) model. Major corporations like Procter & Gamble, 3M, and American Eagle Outfitters have already signed on to utilize ASCS, potentially signaling another revenue stream for Amazon.
As e-commerce continues to expand, Jassy noted that 80% of retail commerce still occurs in brick-and-mortar stores, indicating room for growth in online shopping. ASCS could offer higher margins compared to Amazon’s core e-commerce operations, though it will face significant operating expenses. The new service’s success remains uncertain, but it highlights Amazon’s innovative approach to maintaining its market leadership in both e-commerce and cloud computing.
