Ongoing Decline in Cattle Prices on Wednesday

Live Cattle Futures Decline Amid Sluggish Cash Trade

Live cattle futures fell on Wednesday, losing between 90 cents and $1.05. This week, cash trade remained slow. The Fed Cattle Exchange online auction on Wednesday displayed no sales out of 1,546 head offered, with bids between $215 and $220. Feeder cattle futures also experienced declines, dropping $2.15 to $2.35. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 16 cents on May 26, averaging $296.09.

The USDA’s National Wholesale Boxed Beef report indicated a rise on Wednesday morning, with the Chc/Sel spread at $13.82. Choice boxes increased by $2.92 to $364.77, while Select boxes were up 12 cents to $350.95 per cwt. The USDA reported a federally inspected cattle slaughter of 114,000 head for Tuesday, bringing the weekly total to 116,000 head, down 10,121 head compared to the same holiday week last year.
