Significant ETF Outflows Highlight Volatility in Emerging Markets
Recent data from ETF Channel reveals the substantial changes in unit counts for various ETFs over the past week. The most notable outflow occurred in the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ex China ETF (EMXC), where 8,400,000 units were withdrawn. This represents a marked decrease of 3.1% compared to the previous week. In morning trading today, several key components of EMXC showed movement, with NU Holdings dropping approximately 2.3% and Credicorp declining by about 0.5%.
On a percentage basis, the ETF experiencing the largest outflow is the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT). This fund lost 2,650,000 units, translating to an astonishing 39.3% decline in outstanding units from the week prior. Among XRT’s main underlying assets, Albertsons Companies saw a slight uptick of around 0.5%, while Walgreens Boots Alliance increased by approximately 0.2% in morning trading.
