In early trading on Thursday, shares of Cisco Systems surged by 16.2%, making it the top performer in the S&P 500 index. Year-to-date, Cisco has seen a total gain of 53.6%.
Conversely, Albemarle Corporation was the worst-performing component of the index, dropping 3.9%, yet still maintains a year-to-date gain of 36.6%. Other notable movements included Akamai Technologies, down 3.6%, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which increased by 6.6% on the day.
