Emerging Electric Features

Environmentally sustainable home features are gaining traction. Zillow reports that mentions of whole-home batteries surged by 62% since last year. Additionally, electric vehicle chargers appeared in 34% more listings, while solar panels increased by 18%. Induction cooktops also gained some popularity, rising by 5%.

Cozy Atmosphere

The word “cozy” has evolved. Initially used to describe small spaces, it now reflects a desirable quality in homes, countering the trend of expansive open floor plans. Zillow found that listings featuring “cozy” have grown by 35% year-over-year.

Signs suggest that the preference for ultra-modern homes may be waning. Home libraries have increased in listings by 22%, while mentions of “nostalgia” and “vintage” saw rises of 14% and 9%, respectively. Additionally, back kitchens are experiencing a revival, showing up in 8% more listings than the previous year. This nod to the past reflects a growing desire for classic design elements.

Protection Against Climate Events

As extreme weather becomes more common, buyers are prioritizing homes with protective features. The proportion of listings mentioning flood barriers has risen by 22%, while seismic retrofitting increased by 20%. References to water catchment systems and drought-resistant yards also went up by 19% and 14%, respectively.

Desire for Wet Rooms

Standard bathrooms may not meet the expectations of future buyers. Wet rooms, which merge showers and bathtubs into a seamless waterproof area, have gained popularity, appearing in 19% more Zillow listings than last year.
