US Stocks See Marginal Uptick On Final Trading Day Of 2023; Chicago PMI Dips In December

U.S. stocks inched higher this morning, as the Dow Jones index gained approximately 10 points on Friday.

As of the market opening Friday, the Dow traded up 0.03% to 37,723.19, with the NASDAQ edging up 0.02% to 15,098.01. The S&P 500 also saw an uptick, gaining 0.05% to 4,785.65.

Sector Performance

Information technology shares saw a rise of 0.2% on Friday.

In contrast, real estate shares experienced a decline of 0.5% during Friday’s trading session.

Key Highlights

The Chicago PMI fell to 46.9 in December from 55.8 in the previous month, missing market estimates of 51.

Rising Stocks

China SXT Pharmaceuticals, Inc. SXTC shares surged 158% to $5.34.

Shares of China Green Agriculture, Inc. CGA soared 70% to $3.23. China Green Agriculture recently entered into a stock purchase agreement with Zhibiao Pan for the acquisition of all outstanding stock of Lonestar Dream for a total consideration of $49 million.

Aditxt, Inc. ADTX shares also experienced an uptick, gaining 58% to $7.62. Aditxt recently entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Evofem Biosciences, Inc.

Falling Stocks

Global Mofy Metaverse Limited GMM saw its shares drop 36% to $7.10.
Global Mofy Metaverse announced a $10 million follow-on offering.

Shares of Ucommune International Ltd UK were down 26% to $3.8446, following a 71% surge on Thursday. Ucommune recently regained compliance with the Nasdaq minimum bid price requirement.

Cingulate Inc. CING fell 21% to $7.73. Cingulate shares had jumped 146% on Thursday after the company received guidance from the FDA regarding its clinical program for CTx-1301.

Commodities Update

In commodity news, oil traded up 1% to $72.47, while gold traded down 0.7% at $2,069.30.

Silver traded down 2.1% to $23.85 on Friday, with copper falling 0.8% to $3.8945.

Euro Zone Market Movement

European shares saw upward movement today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 gained 0.2%, and London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.1%. Meanwhile, Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 0.5%, the German DAX rose 0.3%, the French CAC 40 gained 0.3%, and Italy’s FTSE MIB Index increased by 0.4%.

Spain posted a current account surplus of EUR 3,770 million in October compared to a year-ago surplus of EUR 1,228 million. Spain’s consumer price inflation eased to 3.1% year-over-year in December from 3.2% in the prior month. The Nationwide House Price Index in the U.K. fell by 1.8% year-over-year in December.

Asia Pacific Market Recap

Asian markets closed mixed on Friday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 falling 0.22%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rising 0.02%, and China’s Shanghai Composite Index gaining 0.68%. India’s S&P BSE Sensex, meanwhile, fell 0.23%.

China reported a current account surplus of $62.8 billion in the third quarter, compared to the preliminary estimate of $62.6 billion.
