Sweden caught the interest of investors around the world on Wednesday as they wonder why the country’s central bank cut interest rates today.
This saw Sweden cut its interest rates from 4% to 3.75%. This comes after the country’s interest rate dropped to 2%, as compared to its previous high of 10%.
The why behind the interest rate cut in Sweden has investors hopeful that maybe we’ll see something similar in the U.S. However, that will depend on how the Federal Reserve feels about the economy and inflation stateside.
It’s also worth noting that Sweden is planning for more interest rate cuts in 2024. If all goes according to plan, the country’s central bank will reduce interest rates two additional times. Those cuts should happen in the second half of the year.
