Xiaomi SU7 EV

The road for Chinese tech behemoth Xiaomi XIACF took a thrilling turn as it hit the electric vehicle industry with a bang, pushing out its SU7 electric sedan to an eager audience of over 100,000 who placed their orders in anticipation of a greener future.

As the wheels of progress spun, the company commemorated the occasion with a grand delivery ceremony in Beijing, marking the historic moment when the first units of the limited Founder’s edition hit the streets, a mere 5,000 vehicles that symbolized the start of Xiaomi’s electric journey.

During this pivotal event, echoes of ambition reverberated as Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, lauded the occasion by prophesying a future reminiscent of Tesla’s meteoric rise: β€œXiaomi’s car officially debuts, the real revolution in smart cars has officially begun, and China will surely give birth to a great company like Tesla,” proudly proclaimed Jun.

Sitting in the driver’s seat with a starting price of 215,900 yuan (about $29,838), the SU7 surged past its competition, even undercutting the Tesla Model 3’s pricing in China. The upscale Pro and Max variants, with price tags commencing at 245,900 yuan ($34,022) and 299,900 yuan ($41,494) respectively, rounded out Xiaomi’s bold entrance into the EV market.

The acceleration didn’t slow down as Xiaomi unveiled its EV masterpiece, with over 50,000 orders zooming in within half an hour of the car’s availability. Offering a palette of 9 vibrant shades including radiant purple and lava orange, the SU7 promised a range of up to 810 km, eclipsing its rival, the Model 3, by a significant margin with its 606 km range.

Reflecting on the journey ahead, Lei Jun remarked, β€œThe essence of EVs lies in three key elements: car, electric, and intelligent. Over the past decade, we’ve witnessed tremendous progress in overcoming the challenges of vehicle electrification. In the next decade, I believe the focus is rapidly shifting towards intelligence. This is where the next battleground for the EV market is.”
