Bumps in the Road: Ford’s Camera Recall
Oh, the beauty of backup cameras! A modern marvel that once we’ve tasted, we can’t live without. However, for Ford, the veteran automaker, these cameras are causing more trouble than ease – prompting a sizable recall. As trading came to a close on September 20, Ford shares saw a slight dip.
Approximately 144,500 Maverick pickup trucks are at the center of this recall, with some of their backup cameras displaying static images instead of the expected moving ones. This glitch, causing hazards to go unseen or misinterpreted, poses a significant risk to drivers and passersby alike.
Shifting Gears: New Features vs. Old
Ford isn’t just dealing with recalls – they are also innovating. The company is looking to introduce a feature called “soiled surface monitoring,” a patent still in the works that can detect wet or dirty surfaces in the vehicle and determine if they’ve been adequately cleaned.
However, not all news is good news. In a bid to cut costs, Ford is phasing out its automated parking system, the enhanced active park assist system. Despite being a lifesaver for parallel parking, the feature didn’t see much use, as many drivers opted for other parking methods.
