ISG to Release In-Depth Analysis of Managed Network Service Providers in 2025
Research Study to Examine Providers of Software-Defined Networking and Advisory Services
Information Services Group (ISG) III, a leading global technology research and advisory firm, has initiated a research study focused on providers of software-defined networking (SDN) services, including those utilizing AI for network optimization.
This study’s findings will be presented in a series of ISG Provider Lens™ reports titled Network – Software-Defined Solutions and Services, expected to be published in June 2025. The reports will scrutinize providers of managed SDN-WAN services, SD network transformation services, edge technology and services (like private 5G), and secure access service edge (SASE) services.
These reports will aid enterprise buyers in assessing their current vendor relationships and exploring new options. ISG advisors will leverage the information to suggest providers to their clients seeking to make informed decisions.
The research will delve into consulting and advisory services, as well as implementation offerings from SD-WAN providers. It will also analyze edge technologies and services, such as IoT, universal/virtual customer premises equipment (u/vCPE), and software-defined local area network (SD-LAN), which links branch locations and private mobile networks using 5G technology.
“Companies are realizing the benefits of centralizing their management of various distributed network assets,” stated Heiko Henkes, director and principal analyst at ISG Research. “By transitioning their control layer to the cloud, businesses can improve network management, increase flexibility, reduce costs, enhance visibility, and enable AI-driven network optimization.”
ISG has sent surveys to over 160 providers in the global SDN solutions and services sector. Collaborating with ISG’s global advisors, the research team will create four quadrants to represent typical service offerings for enterprises, based on ISG’s direct experience with their clients. The four quadrants include:
- Managed SD-WAN Services, which reviews providers of managed enterprise SD-WAN services, fully managed by the provider or co-managed. Many providers are now offering hybrid MPLS IP and MPLS-SDN solutions within their strategic frameworks.
- SDN Transformation Services (Consulting and Implementation), which evaluates providers assisting enterprises in SDN and SD-WAN solutions, beginning from a transformational roadmap to execution and testing.
- Edge Technologies and Services (including Private 5G), reviewing vendors of edge technology tools, including applications and management solutions, critical for enhancing speed and flexibility in IoT contexts.
- SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) Solutions and Services, which looks at providers offering integrated network and security solutions spanning from the enterprise core to the edge, often enhanced by identity-based authentication.
The geographically focused reports will cover the global SDN landscape and analyze product and service availability in regions like Asia Pacific, Germany, the U.S., and the U.K. Analysts Kenn Walters and Yash Jethani will be the lead authors for the U.S. and U.K. reports, respectively.
Details about identified providers and vendors, along with further information on the study, can be found in a digital brochure. Companies not currently listed can reach out to ISG to request inclusion.
All 2025 ISG Provider Lens™ evaluations will incorporate expanded customer experience (CX) data, reflecting actual enterprise experiences with specific services. Enterprise customers are encouraged to participate in an online survey, with respondents receiving a copy of the report as a token of appreciation.
