Investors Brace for Key Economic Reports as April Ends

As April closes and May begins, a wave of significant economic data is headed to the market. This includes metrics such as gross domestic product (GDP), personal consumption expenditures (PCE), and the highly anticipated April employment report. With these influential indicators arriving in rapid succession, investors should be prepared for potential market fluctuations as they reassess expectations regarding the Federal Reserve’s future actions.

The ongoing earnings season is also notable, featuring a robust lineup of major corporations set to report their financial results. High-profile companies such as Airbnb (ABNB), Amazon.com (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Honeywell (HON), JetBlue Airways (JBLU), Nucor (NUE), PayPal (PYPL), Royal Caribbean (RCL), SoFi Technologies (SOFI), and Visa (V) are expected to provide updates.

Below is an overview of noteworthy market events scheduled for the upcoming week. Please note that all economic dates listed are tentative and may change.

Monday, April 28: No major economic data will be released.

Tuesday, April 29: Key releases include the advanced U.S. trade balance in goods, advanced retail and wholesale inventories, the S&P Case-Shiller home price index, consumer confidence data for April, and job openings for March.

Wednesday, April 30: Expect the ADP employment report, a preliminary GDP update for Q1, March data on personal income and spending, the PCE and core PCE indexes, the first-quarter employment cost index, the Chicago Business Barometer, and pending home sales figures.

Thursday, May 1: This day includes initial weekly jobless claims, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) manufacturing data, the final U.S. manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) from S&P, a construction spending reading for March, and April auto sales data.

Friday, May 2: The week concludes with the April U.S. employment report, which will include the unemployment rate, hourly wages, and year-over-year wage growth, alongside March factory orders.
