A Nasdaq survey conducted in June 2025 reveals that Gen Z and Millennial investors are increasingly drawn to emerging ETF investments in advanced technologies, particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency. The report titled “ETF Investors Navigate a Changing Economy” notes that 46% of Gen Z and 50% of Millennials hold cryptocurrency-themed ETFs, compared to 38% of Gen X and 12% of Baby Boomers.

Additionally, 41% of Gen Z and 31% of Millennials view crypto’s decentralized nature as a risk management tool, with 43% expressing interest in AI and machine learning ETFs and 45% in fintech ETFs. The survey further indicates that younger investors are becoming more intentional in their research processes, with trust in social media sources declining by 15% since 2022, favoring established media outlets instead.

The report advises ETF providers to tailor communications to investors, enhance financial education, and adapt to the growing preference for personalized investment strategies. Bui notes that this trend reflects a shift from the impulsive investing seen in 2021 and 2022 to a more measured and mindful approach.
