As of Tuesday, August and October delivery cattle futures showed midday gains of 17 to 67 cents, recovering from Monday’s losses. Live cattle futures rose by $1.67 to $1.95 on Monday, with preliminary open interest increasing by 4,462 contracts, signaling new buying interest. Cash trade revealed prices of $230-231 in Kansas and $240-242 in Northern regions.
Feeder cattle futures increased by $3.50 to $3.70 on Monday, and were up an additional $0.80 to $1.00 by midday Tuesday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index reached $325.80, an increase of $3.52. USDA Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed on Tuesday, with Choice boxes up $1.23 to $373.30 and Select prices down $2.32 to $347.73. Cattle slaughter for Monday was estimated at 105,000 head, down 7,000 from the previous week and 8,887 lower compared to early week figures in 2024.
