Live cattle futures increased by 42 to 77 cents on Monday, with the August contract’s First Notice day seeing no deliveries. Cash trade remained quiet, with prices last week reaching $235-236 in the South and $247 in Northern markets.
Feeder cattle futures also rose by 50 to 85 cents after midday fluctuations. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 7 cents to $335.82 as of August 1. The OKC feeder cattle auction reported around 6,000 head available, with heavy steers and heifers decreasing by $3.
USDA Wholesale Boxed Beef prices showed an increase in the afternoon report, with Choice boxes rising to $364.32 and Select boxes to $341.59. Estimated cattle slaughter for Monday was 101,000 head, down 7,000 from last week and 15,979 lower than the same week in 2024.
