Hogs Maintain Upward Momentum Through Monday’s Trading Session

On Monday, lean hog futures gained between 7 to 40 cents across most contracts, with the USDA’s national base hog report indicating a price increase of $1.693, bringing it to $105.87. The CME Lean Hog Index rose by 10 cents to $106.14 as of September 11.

In its Monday afternoon report, the USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout prices fell by 44 cents to $114.07 per cwt, with decreases noted in loin, ham, and belly primals. The USDA estimated that 490,000 hogs were federally inspected for slaughter on Monday, surpassing last week’s number by 2,000 and exceeding the same week last year by 16,154 head.
