Hogs Decrease in Price on Friday

Lean hog futures declined on Friday, with December futures down $1.65, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell by 61 cents to $96.59 as of October 15. The USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $90.14, a drop of $1.33 from the previous day.

The USDA’s morning report indicated a FOB pork carcass cutout price of $102.70 per cwt, decreasing by 53 cents. Estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for the week was 2.588 million head, up 11,000 from the prior week, but down by 17,573 from the same week last year.

Closing prices for futures included December Hogs at $82.375 (down $0.225), February Hogs at $84.775 (down $0.325), and April Hogs at $88.650 (down $0.200).
