Lean hog futures saw gains of 10 to 45 cents during the Friday session, though December futures dropped 62 cents this week. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $84.17 on Friday, down 57 cents from Thursday. The CME Lean Hog Index also decreased by 33 cents to $91.83 as of October 29.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by $1.67 to $101.95 per cwt, with significant increases noted in the loin (+$6.04), butt (+$7.14), and picnic (+$5.12) cuts, while the rib, ham, and belly reported lower prices. For the week, the estimated federally inspected hog slaughter reached 2.583 million head, a decrease of 1,000 head from last week and 69,618 head below the corresponding week last year.
