On Friday, live cattle futures rose between $4.95 and $5.25, with cash trade in the northern U.S. recorded at $208-$210 per hundredweight and dressed trade at $330. Feeder cattle futures displayed near-limit gains, increasing by $8.70 to $9.225, while the CME Feeder Cattle Index fell by $2.09 to $329.88.

For the week ending October 16, the USDA reported beef export sales of 12,165 metric tons, marking a four-week low, while shipments totaled 13,346 metric tons, the highest in 11 weeks. Additionally, USDA’s wholesale boxed beef prices showed a decline, with Choice boxes down $1.39 to $366.89 and Select boxes down $5.13 to $350.38.

USDA’s federally inspected cattle slaughter for Wednesday was estimated at 124,000 head, bringing the week’s total to 369,000, which is 12,000 head above the previous week but 2,509 head below the same week last year.
