Hogs Retreat by the End of Monday’s Trading Session

On Monday, lean hog futures fell by 37 to 70 cents, with the USDA reporting a national base hog price of $71.68, down 41 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 35 cents to $81.92 on November 26. December 25 hogs closed at $80.225, February 26 at $80.300, and April 26 at $84.275.

USDA data revealed 38,790 metric tons (MT) of pork sold for export in the week of October 23, marking a four-week high, while shipments reached an 18-week high at 31,317 MT. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 492,000 head on Monday, down 3,000 head from last week but exceeding last year by 6,241 head. The pork carcass cutout value rose 57 cents to $94.79 per cwt, with most primals reporting lower prices.
