Cattle Rally Expected to Extend Through Thursday

Live cattle futures on July 31 are trading $1.52 to $1.90 higher at midday, with no deliveries issued for August live cattle on Wednesday. Cash trade remains quiet, recording a price of $237 on the FCE. Feeder cattle futures rose $1.72 to $4.25, reaching new highs. The CME Feeder Cattle Index increased by 18 cents to $336.21 as of August 5.

Beef export sales data reported 15,921 metric tons for the week of July 31, nearly doubling from the previous week. Shipments totaled 14,049 metric tons, marking a four-week high. USDA estimated cattle slaughter for Wednesday at 116,000 head, totaling 332,000 for the week, down by 1,000 from last week and 28,722 lower than the same week in 2024.
