On Monday, March NY world sugar #11 (SBH26) closed down 0.05 points or 0.34% while March London ICE white sugar #5 (SWH26) fell by 2.50 points or 0.59%. This decline was attributed to a larger projected global sugar surplus, with Covrig Analytics raising its 2025/26 surplus estimate from 4.1 million metric tons (MMT) to 4.7 MMT.
Key data from various sources forecasts a notable reduction in sugar production for Brazil, projecting a 3.91% decrease to 41.8 MMT in 2026/27. Additionally, the International Sugar Organization (ISO) predicts a 1.625 MMT surplus for 2025/26 due to increased production in countries like India and Thailand. The USDA estimates global sugar production will rise by 4.6%, reaching a record of 189.318 MMT, while human consumption is forecasted to increase by 1.4% to 177.921 MMT.
