**Lean Hog Futures Overview – February 22, 2023**
Lean hog futures have increased slightly, rising 10 to 37 cents by midday on Wednesday. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $91.85 as of Wednesday morning, while the CME Lean Hog Index was up 18 cents at $88.35 on February 20.
Pork stocks reached 410.4 million pounds at the end of January, marking a 6.05% increase from the previous month and up 0.77% year-over-year, according to the NASS Cold Storage report released on Tuesday. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was reported at $98.45 per cwt, with a total of 966,000 hogs slaughtered federally for the week, 22,000 head above last week and 2,647 head fewer than the same week last year.
