Canada’s Taseko Mines has finished construction of its Florence copper project in Arizona and is set to begin wellfield operations and commissioning of its solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX/EW) plant, aiming for first copper production within weeks. In early November, wellfield acidification commenced, and injection flow rates have surpassed expectations, with copper grades now adequate for SX/EW operations.
Drilling has resumed at Florence with three rigs in operation to expand the commercial wellfield, which is expected to boost solution flows and copper output during the ramp-up. The company’s Gibraltar mine in British Columbia produced 98 million pounds of copper and 1.9 million pounds of molybdenum in 2025, with fourth-quarter output rising to 31 million pounds due to improved head grades and better recoveries.
Looking forward, Taseko forecasts full-year copper production of 120 to 130 million pounds for 2025. The company is also advancing environmental permitting for its Yellowhead copper project in British Columbia and holds a 77.5% interest in the New Prosperity property.
