BYD Unveils Blade Battery 2.0 with Rapid Charging Capability
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has introduced its Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging system, allowing compatible vehicles to charge from 10% to 70% in approximately five minutes and from 20% to 97% in roughly 12 minutes. This advancement positions BYD as a significant player in the EV sector, especially as it enhances its reputation as a cutting-edge technology provider.
Currently, Tesla and BYD are not direct competitors in the U.S. due to a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs. However, BYD’s charging innovations could influence market dynamics internationally, particularly as it expands its charging infrastructure. While Tesla’s 4680 batteries require 20 to 25 minutes to charge from 10% to 97%, BYD’s technology aims to attract consumers who prioritize quick charging.
In China, BYD is actively developing a network of 1,500-kilowatt charging hubs to support this new technology. The wider global adoption of Blade Battery 2.0 faces challenges due to insufficient infrastructure, which may limit its immediate impact on competition with Tesla.
