Microsoft Price Increase for AI Offering
Microsoft is raising the monthly price of its Microsoft 365 E7 enterprise plan by 65%, increasing it to $99, effective May 1. This move is part of the company’s strategy to boost revenue from AI, following $72 billion in capital expenditures in the past two quarters focused on AI infrastructure.
Currently, Microsoft has 15 million paying Copilot accounts out of 450 million Microsoft 365 commercial customers. The company aims to expand its AI subscriber base with new features like Copilot Cowork, amid increasing competition from platforms such as ChatGPT, which boasts over 50 million paying subscribers.
In the second quarter, sales from Microsoft 365 commercial products rose by 17%, but commercial seats grew only by 6%. Shareholders are encouraged to monitor the growth in sales and paid subscribers to assess the effectiveness of this pricing strategy.
