Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG) has acquired the da Vinci and Ion distribution business from ab medica and its affiliates, expanding its operations in Southern Europe, including Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Malta. The agreement, announced on March 2, 2026, involves a combined installed base of over 470 da Vinci surgical systems in these countries and adds 250 employees to the company.
In its fourth-quarter earnings report for 2025, published on January 22, 2026, Intuitive Surgical beat the Zacks Consensus estimate, reporting earnings of $2.53 per share compared to the expected $2.25. The company experienced an 18% year-over-year increase in procedures, with 532 new da Vinci systems installed during the quarter, raising the total to 11,106 systems. Revenue surged to $2.87 billion, up from $2.41 billion the previous year.
Looking ahead, analysts expect Intuitive’s earnings to continue expanding, with estimates for 2026 revised upward to $10.06 from $9.61, reflecting anticipated earnings growth of 12.7%. However, shares are down 15% year-to-date, prompting investors to consider this as a buying opportunity.
