Mixed Performance for Hogs on Wednesday

On Wednesday, April 26, lean hog futures experienced mixed trading, with open interest decreasing by 2,646 contracts. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $93.29, reflecting an increase of $1.11 from the previous day. Additionally, the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 10 cents to $91.86.

The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value fell by $1.07 to $98.82 per cwt, with lower prices reported for the loin, belly, and ham primals. An estimated 498,000 hogs were federally inspected for slaughter on Wednesday, bringing the weekly total to 1.387 million head, which is 89,000 head less than the previous week but 49,896 head more than the same week last year.
