Netflix’s New Advertising Strategy
Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) is set to generate $3 billion in revenue from advertising by 2026, having previously resisted ad initiatives. The company’s ad revenue surged 150% in 2025, reaching $1.5 billion, which constituted 3% of its total revenue. This growth accompanies a 23 million increase in subscribers in 2025, bringing the total to approximately 325 million.
As of May 2025, Netflix’s ad-based subscription tier had 94 million monthly active users, tapping into a price-sensitive demographic. Despite this growth, Netflix’s revenue is expected to grow by only 13% in 2026, and its shares currently have a price-to-earnings ratio of 37.5, indicating a high valuation amid intensifying competition.
