Live cattle futures increased by 7 to 65 cents on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, with June down 5 cents. Cash trade from last week settled at $235-236 in the North and $235 in the South. The CME Feeder Cattle Index rose by 26 cents to $361.59. The Oklahoma City feeder cattle auction sold 5,370 head, with steers steady on feeders and calves gaining $5-15, while heifers gained up to $5.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices rose in the afternoon report, with Choice boxes up 78 cents to $399.91 and Select up 67 cents to $394.50. The USDA estimated federally inspected cattle slaughter on Tuesday at 107,000 head, resulting in a weekly total of 212,000 head—up 9,000 from last week but down 31,286 from the same week last year.
In other agricultural updates, the Tuesday APHIS report indicated 33 active cases of new world screwworm in Mexico’s Tamaulipas state.
