Hogs Experience Predominant Decline on Monday

On Monday, lean hog futures experienced a decline of 5 to 30 cents, with May futures closing up 15 cents. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $90.92, marking an increase of 40 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 28 cents to $91.18 as of March 26.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by $1.01, reaching $97.57 per cwt. The price for loin, butt, and belly primals saw declines. The estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday stood at 496,000 head, surpassing last week’s figures by 4,000 head and exceeding the same week last year by 35,989 head.
