Bill Gates’ Philanthropic Plans and Foundation Investments
Bill Gates has announced his intention to contribute nearly all of his wealth to the Gates Foundation by 2045. Currently, the foundation’s investment trust holds a portfolio valued at approximately $36 billion, with 59% concentrated in three main companies: Berkshire Hathaway (25.4%), WM (18.6%), and Canadian National Railway (15%). Despite giving away substantial wealth, Gates’s net worth remains over $100 billion.
The foundation’s largest holding, Berkshire Hathaway, is valued at over $9 billion and continues to receive annual shares from Warren Buffett. Additionally, WM, a waste management company, has reported strong growth in cash flow and profitability, while Canadian National Railway is focusing on increasing efficiencies amid tariff challenges. Overall, these investments reflect a strategy focused on solid, sustainable businesses.
