Wheat futures began mixed on Friday, with Chicago SRW futures rising by up to 4.75 cents and KC HRW futures leading gains at 11 to 17.25 cents higher for the front months. As of the most recent close, May CBOT wheat was at $5.98½, up 4.75 cents, while July CBOT wheat settled at $6.06½, also up 4.75 cents.
Export sales data released on Thursday indicated that 100,318 metric tons of old crop wheat were sold for the week ending April 9, a decrease of 38.68% from the previous week but an increase of 31.14% year-over-year. Notably, Nigeria purchased 52,400 metric tons, and Vietnam bought 34,800 metric tons. For new crop wheat sales, 131,000 metric tons were recorded, with South Korea buying 90,000 metric tons and Mexico obtaining 22,000 metric tons.
In France, the soft wheat crop is rated at 84% good to excellent, consistent with previous week’s assessments, while durum wheat is at 81% in similar condition according to FranceAgriMer.
