Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 1.4 million F-150 pickup trucks in the United States, following an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) prompted by complaints of unexpected downshifts. The recall affects models manufactured between 2014 and 2017 that are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The concern stems from potential unintended downshifts into second gear while the vehicle is in motion, which could raise the risk of a crash. This issue is linked to 444 warranty claims and 105 customer service reports. Owners will be notified by mail starting April 27, 2026, and dealers will update the powertrain control module software at no cost.
