Dow Jones Industrial Average Crosses 50,000 Milestone
The Dow Jones Industrial Average surpassed 50,000 for the first time on Thursday. As of 12:17 p.m. ET, the index showed a gain of 0.94%, while the Nasdaq-100 and S&P 500 both increased by 1%. This marks a significant milestone in the stock market, with AI stocks, particularly Nvidia, driving the gains. Nvidia’s shares rose by 4.3% to $235.63, adding $248 billion to its market cap. Broadcom also gained 4.1%, reflecting strong demand for AI semiconductors, with its price target raised to $545 by Wells Fargo.
In contrast, Cisco Systems saw a 17% jump in its stock following earnings, but its impact on major indexes was minimal due to its lower weighting. Boeing, on the other hand, fell by 4.5% despite news that China would purchase 200 jets, indicating market skepticism.
This achievement underscores investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence technology, which has significantly influenced market trends throughout the year, with Nvidia and Broadcom achieving year-to-date gains of over 25%.
