Hogs Under Intense Noon Strain

Lean hog futures experienced a decline on Friday, falling between $1.02 to $1.85. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $91.87, while the CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 26 cents to $90.48 as of May 13. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by 90 cents to $97.45 per cwt, though belly and rib primals were reported lower.

USDA estimated a federally inspected hog slaughter of 464,000 head on Thursday, bringing the weekly total to 1.891 million—down 37,000 from the previous week and 17,469 below the same week last year. As of Friday, June 26 Hogs traded at $98.500, July 26 Hogs at $103.050, and August 26 Hogs at $103.625.
