Ford’s European Overhaul Seeks Revival Amid Market Challenges
Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is undergoing its fourth significant restructuring in Europe since 2000, aiming to address declining market share and profitability. The company plans to launch five all-new passenger vehicles by the end of 2029, including a rugged compact SUV from the Bronco family, which will be produced in Spain by 2028. Ford’s vehicle strategy focuses on combining off-road capabilities with on-road performance to appeal to European consumers.
Challenges abound as Chinese automakers have doubled their market share in Europe to 6%, offering prices up to €10,000 (just under $12,000) lower than comparable European models. Despite the European Union’s 35% tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, these tariffs do not apply to plug-in hybrids or combustion engine vehicles, allowing Chinese brands to maintain momentum in the region.
