Wheat futures are experiencing modest gains, trading up 2 to 4 cents in most contracts on Monday morning following a significant decline last week, where Chicago SRW futures dropped by 10 to 13 cents. The USDA reported a total of 807,348 metric tons (MT) in net cancellations for old crop wheat, the lowest for this marketing year, while new crop sales reached 1.058 million MT, a marketing year high, with Japan as the top buyer at 252,100 MT.
Managed money increased its short position in Chicago wheat by 13,907 contracts to a total of 18,706 as of Tuesday, while reducing its long position in Kansas City wheat by 3,205 contracts to 26,870. Additionally, Russia’s agriculture ministry estimated its wheat exports at 50 million MT for 2025/26, and FranceAgriMer reported a 3% decline in French wheat crop ratings, now at 78% good/excellent.
