Hogs Surge Tuesday Amidst Rising Cutout Prices

Lean hog futures are seeing gains of 55 cents to $1.50 as of midday on June 26, 2023. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $94.75, an increase of 92 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also rose, up 11 cents to $91.51.

Additionally, USDA’s pork carcass cutout value increased by $2.53, reaching $102.28 per cwt. Notably, the estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was 476,000 head, an increase of 12,461 head compared to the same Monday last year. Current prices for future hog contracts are reported as: June at $95.575 (up $0.550), July at $101.350 (up $1.500), and August at $98.575 (up $0.975).
