Nvidia’s New PC Chip Launch
Nvidia has unveiled the RTX Spark superchip at the Computex trade show in Taipei, marking its entry into the PC market, a domain dominated by Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm. The new chip features a 20-core Arm-based processor paired with a Blackwell graphics chip and offers up to 128 GB of unified memory.
Nvidia’s RTX Spark laptops and compact desktops are set to ship this fall, in collaboration with Microsoft and MediaTek, including brands like Dell, HP, and Lenovo. In its fiscal Q1 2027, Nvidia reported revenues of $81.6 billion, with a significant portion from its data center products, generating $75.2 billion. This foray into PCs, while promising, poses minimal financial risk for Nvidia, as the market contributes a small fraction of its total revenue.
In contrast, Intel’s client computing group generates over half of its revenue, while AMD’s client business reached $2.9 billion last quarter. Qualcomm, which has established a foothold in Arm-based Windows chips, may face increased competition as Nvidia targets the same segment. The success of Nvidia’s new PC venture remains to be seen as it competes with established giants in a market that has been historically aligned with x86 architecture.
