Hogs Forced to Retreat on Friday

Lean hog futures are down 97 cents to $2.62 at midday, with the USDA’s national base hog price reported at $94.18, a decrease of $1.46 from the prior day. The CME Lean Hog Index rose 26 cents on June 3 to $92.51.

As of Friday morning, USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was $101.65 per cwt, down $3.52, with only the belly primal reported lower. USDA estimated a federal hog slaughter of 481,000 head on Thursday, bringing this week’s total to 1.917 million head, an increase of 15,877 head from the same week last year.
