Amazon’s Major Investment in Anthropic
Amazon has invested $13 billion in the artificial intelligence start-up Anthropic, with the option to invest an additional $20 billion based on performance milestones. As part of a strategic partnership, Anthropic has committed to spending at least $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the next decade. Currently, Amazon’s stake in Anthropic is valued between $74 billion and $193 billion, depending on its total ownership percentage, which is estimated to be between 15% and 20%.
Anthropic’s valuation has surged, currently estimated at $965 billion, significantly increasing the potential value of Amazon’s investment. If Anthropic’s valuation continues to rise, Amazon could see its investment worth up to $200 billion. This stake not only enhances Amazon’s portfolio but also strengthens AWS’s position in the growing AI infrastructure market.
