As of June 26, live cattle prices declined, with June futures down $0.05 to $257.40. Other contracts fell between $1.22 and $2.25, while feeder cattle futures dropped $1.60 to $2.37. Cash trade noted last week included northern sales averaging $260 live and $408-410 dressed.
The USDA reported a weekly cattle slaughter of 107,000 head, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week but down 9,911 from the same period last year. Additionally, the NASS Crop Progress report indicated that U.S. pasture rated good/excellent is at 34%, a 1% increase from last week.
Wholesale boxed beef prices rose, with Choice boxes increasing by $0.41 to $391.44 and Select boxes up $2.60 to $374.18. The Chc/Sel spread was reported at $17.26.
