Tesla has launched its robotaxi services in Miami, Florida, marking the third U.S. state to adopt its autonomous ride-hailing platform, following Texas and California. This expansion aims to tap into one of the busiest transportation markets in the country, with Miami and the surrounding South Florida region attracting millions of visitors annually.

The robotaxi initiative began on June 22, 2025, with limited operations in Austin, Texas, followed by California’s San Francisco Bay Area in July. As of now, Tesla operates in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Miami, with fully autonomous Model Y robotaxis deployed in Texas and Florida, while California still employs human safety monitors. CEO Elon Musk anticipates that fully autonomous vehicles without monitor oversight will become more prevalent in the second half of 2026.

Despite this progress, Tesla faces stiff competition from industry leaders like Alphabet‘s Waymo and Amazon‘s Zoox, both of which are rapidly expanding their autonomous networks. Waymo operates in ten U.S. cities, providing approximately 500,000 paid rides each week and is poised for international expansion.
