Hogs Surge in Wednesday Matchup

On Wednesday, July 13, lean hog futures increased by $1.05 to $2.35 across various contracts, with July futures specifically noting a 7-cent rise. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $100.66, up $2.10 from the previous day, while the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 76 cents to $93.87.

Additionally, the USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was reported at $101.46, an increase of 25 cents. The belly cut led the gains, rising by $7.11. For Wednesday, the USDA estimated a federally inspected hog slaughter of 482,000 head, resulting in a weekly total of 1.408 million head, which is 6,000 head below the prior week but 13,037 head above the same week last year.
