AI Infrastructure Spending and Investment Insights

The four largest hyperscalers—Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms—are projected to spend over $700 billion on AI infrastructure in 2023, surpassing the GDP of all but 24 countries. Goldman Sachs estimates that total AI capital expenditures could reach around $765 billion by 2026, representing 2.4% of U.S. GDP, which is higher than levels seen during the dot-com bubble.

Despite concerns of a bubble, AI spending currently constitutes about 0.6% of the expected global GDP of $126 trillion in 2026. Comparatively, major tech companies like Nvidia and Micron Technology have lower price-to-earnings ratios than those seen during past tech booms, with Nvidia trading at 23.5 times fiscal 2027 earnings estimates.
