Anthropic is in preliminary talks with Meta Platforms to lease AI computing capacity in a potential deal valued at up to $10 billion over two years. Discussions began in June 2023, with Anthropic expected to make monthly payments, although either company can terminate the agreement prematurely, according to a report from The New York Times.
These negotiations reflect Meta’s strategic aim to establish a revenue stream from AI infrastructure, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated plans for significant investments in this area. Meta’s capital expenditures could reach $145 billion by 2026, up from $72 billion in 2025, with a considerable portion allocated for AI infrastructure.
The interest in AI computing resources highlights the competitive landscape, as limited availability of NVIDIA chips restricts AI developers like Anthropic in deploying advanced models. This underscores the urgency for tech companies to expand their partnerships in high-performance computing.
